Gerry Stecca grew up in a curious and science oriented home. Regardless, the artist gene runs strong in the family, eventually trumping his earlier academic interests.
In 1982, the family moved to beautiful San Diego (CA) were Biology and Art studies mingled. Art training began at San Diego Mesa College 1983-86 (CA) eventually leading to a BA in Visual Arts with a minor is Sciences from the University of California, San Diego in 1987.
A plethora of art experiences followed until May of 2015 when earned a Master in Fine Arts in painting from the Savannah College of Art & Design where he now teaches full time in the Foundations Department. Most of Stecca's works since the early 2000s has been influenced by his admiration for design found in nature. The immediate surrounding of the current studio in Savannah provide inspiration and natural materials which continue to drive the direction of his work.
Throughout his career, he has collaborated as a freelancer with the creative side of various industries, mainly retail and hospitality, working closely with designers and architects in the United States, the Caribbean, Canada and Spain. Such projects include a mural for Starbucks (Savannah, GA) and two murals for a Budweiser theme bar in the Bahamas commissioned by Holland America/Carnival Cruise Line. Stecca has exhibited with Jacob Karpio and Silvana Facchini Gallery, Diana Lowenstein Gallery, Hollywood Art Center, Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale and FIU's Frost Museum of Art among others. Stecca has also exhibited at Art Basel (Switzerland), Miami International Art Fair, Arts for a Better World and Overture Art Fairs. His work can be found in private, corporate and public permanent collections such as the Courtauld East Wing (London, UK), University of Maine Museum of Art (Zillman) in Bangor (MA), Fort Smith Museum of Art (AR), Port Angeles Fine Arts Center (WA), Everett Community College (WA), Savannah College of Art and Design (GA), The Ballast Hotel (NC), The James Royal Hotel (Miami Beach) and Related Group (Trump Tower III in Sunny Isles, FL), etc.
Stecca resides and works in Savannah, GA.

Inspired by childhood exposure to the tropics and parents-encouraged appreciation for nature, extensive Lego's architectural experimentation and later, studies of biology and science, I now dream, create and embrace discoveries from process.
The physical essence of my sculptures and paintings is often rooted in the collection and accumulation of units, construction, deconstruction, multiple layers and endless patience.
The cadence of repetitious sculptural processes are mirrored in my multi-layered drawings and paintings. Fastidious to most, I achieve an enjoyable meditative-like state during these stubbornly repetitive art making sessions. Many works start with an idea, mostly a direction, open to surprises that may become new techniques or new endings all together. It is true that I observe, absorb and digest aspects of nature which eventually blend and drive my works.
My work is about process, discovery and design that keeps me curious and driven to imagine and create. I am not copying nature, rather honoring its infinite creations by letting them become something new. My work does not advertise human ideologies nor causes; if any of it inspires you to appreciate my inspiration origins and leads you to closer observation/appreciation for nature, then so be it.
